Illinois Farm Families
Influencer Campaign

Illinois Farm Families’ (IFF) is a coalition comprised of representation from the Illinois Beef Association, IL Corn, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Pork Producers, Illinois Soybean Association, and Midwest Dairy. IFF’s mission is to work together to create confidence in Illinois farming practices and build trust in Illinois farmers among consumers, particularly Chicago parents. Getting thousands of busy Chicago parents to farms around Illinois to see for themselves how their food is grown or raised with care is a logistical challenge. To tackle this challenge, IFF brought some of the most influential members of its target audience out to three Illinois farms. Six Chicago-based social media content creators who had between 4,000 and 127,000 followers on Instagram were invited to attend a full day of farm tours. During the day, they engaged with farmers to learn about where their food comes from and modern farming’s approach to animal welfare, sustainability, and technology, sharing with their followers along the way. This entry shows how IFF leveraged the power of online communities facilitated by influencers to virtually transport families to farms to witness Illinois farmers’ passion for farming.

Outcomes from the social media campaign included:
The total percentage of IFF’s Chicago audience on Instagram grew to 19.7% following the event.
IFF gained more than 200 followers on Instagram in the week following the influencer’s tour.
The event’s summary Reel had more than 27,000 views on Instagram and Facebook.
96 stories were posted associated with the tour event.
Giveaway posts on Instagram and Facebook attracted more than 200 entries along with 169 likes on Instagram and 89 on Facebook.
Engagement for July, the month the event was held, reached 72,600 far exceeding the monthly goal of 1,000.
